Welcome to Cakes by Rachel,
crafting custom designed wedding cakes, made from all natural ingredients and eggs from our hens.
I have been honored to be part of the Charlottesville and Central Virginia local food community since 1993, working as a chef, caterer, baker, barista, and farmer. Now I am using my experience and knowledge of our area, its venues, farms and resources to create one-of-a-kind, delicious desserts.
One might even call it “Farm to Cake Table”

I have been cooking professionally for 30 years and I have loved every minute of it. After graduating from The New England Culinary Institute and cooking in France (including a stage at Le Balandre in Cahors), I moved to Charlottesville and was a chef in many wonderful restaurants. About 18 years into my career, got married and started a farm and family.
To pursue my love of the creative culinary arts and to buy hay, I am creating hand crafted one of a kind cakes for special occasions. My family and I live on a wind-swept mountain top in Crozet, Virginia. We balance growing food, loving each other, tending the sheep and enjoying cake!
